The British Association for German Shepherd Dogs (formerly the British Alsatian Association) which was formed in 1933.
The association was created for the good of the breed and our aim is to help members achieve their full potential with their dogs, in whichever discipline they choose.
There are branches throughout the country, and which specialise in different disciplines, including Ring craft, Competitive Obedience, Working Trials, IGP, Agility, and pet dog training including the Kennel Club Good Citizen awards. Please find further details by clicking on our Branches page, and have a look at the interactive map.
All BAGSD branches are regulated by the Association, the rules of which are laid down by the EC (Executive Committee), which are elected by the members of the Association at the annual AGM, which every member is invited to.
The Association is proud to have been the first canine society to organise weekly training classes with qualified instructors, which our branches continue to provide to this day.
Instructor Schools are held at regular intervals to provide qualified Instructors for all of our branches and prior to being considered for an instructor's course applicants must fulfil certain criteria including being a member for some time, training their dog to a certain standard as well as being able to commit to the Branch for a period of time after qualifying.
